SeawayCity.com is a non-commercial website originating from Cornwall, also known as the Seaway City, located in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It serves its online communities as a comprehensive web portal, providing extensive weather information for Cornwall, the Seaway Valley, and Eastern Ontario.
The website also offers links to a wide variety of local, regional, national, and international news organizations, along with access to major and local team sports and many forms of entertainment.
Visitors will also find quick access to web searches, provincial lotteries, major Canadian financial institutions, and a broad range of local, provincial, and national Canadian and American government agencies. Additional quick links provide convenient access to retail and shipping services, travel resources, educational websites, family-friendly content, and online bill payment services for many of the major utilities operating throughout the Seaway City region.

inception
SeawayCity.com was founded in 2009. The domain names seawaycity.com and seawaycity.ca were both registered on February 24, 2009. Today, seawaycity.com serves as the primary domain, with seawaycity.ca permanently redirecting to it.
Shortly after its registration, SeawayCity.com went online and has remained hosted by DataCom Network Services, a Cornwall, Ontario company that continues to operate from the Seaway City.

This early version of SeawayCity.com introduced many of the features that would become synonymous with the website. Visitors could quickly access local weather, live radar imagery, community information, and a broad collection of useful Internet resources from a single location.
Over time, those ideas evolved into the SeawayCity.com of today, a community-focused website dedicated to Cornwall, SDG, and the Seaway Valley.

Built as a traditional single-page website, its layout and overall structure remained largely unchanged for more than a decade.
That approach proved to be reliable and familiar to its visitors, but as the Internet evolved, maintaining and expanding the site became increasingly difficult. Adding new features often required significant work, which naturally limited the number of changes that could be made.
Even so, the website continued to serve the community with local weather, news, and information until the time came for a complete modernization.

As SeawayCity.com continued to grow, it became clear that a modern content management system would provide the flexibility needed for future development. The site was migrated to WordPress, one of the world’s most widely used publishing platforms, while preserving much of the familiar look and feel that long-time visitors had come to recognize.
The transition also allowed us to successfully integrate our existing weather engine with the new platform, combining years of locally developed weather services with a modern and easier-to-maintain website.
Today, this foundation gives us the freedom to introduce new features, expand our local content, and continue evolving SeawayCity.com while remaining true to its original purpose of serving Cornwall, SDG, and the Seaway Valley.

The latest evolution of SeawayCity.com builds upon everything that came before it. While preserving the website’s long-standing focus on local weather and community information, the current design introduces a more modern layout and an expanded range of content for our visitors.
New features include integrated news and sports headlines, locally focused YouTube media from Cornwall Tourism and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and an enhanced weather experience that continues to be at the heart of the site.
Representing the fourth major website iteration since its inception, the 2026 redesign provides a flexible foundation that will allow SeawayCity.com to continue growing and serving Cornwall, SDG, and the Seaway Valley for years to come.
While the design and technology behind SeawayCity.com have evolved over the years, its original purpose remains unchanged: to provide local weather, community information, and useful online resources for Cornwall, SDG, and the Seaway Valley.

Throughout the years, SeawayCity.com has proudly showcased the natural beauty of the Seaway Valley through the lens of the late Dean Ducas of Cornwall. His remarkable talent for capturing light, landscape, and life along the St. Lawrence River brought a unique warmth and authenticity to our site.
As an avid canoeist, Dean often viewed the world from just a few feet above the water. That distinctive vantage point shaped his photography, drawing attention to reflections, shifting light, shoreline silhouettes, and the subtle beauty found beneath piers and along quiet riverbanks. His deep appreciation for nature, travel, and landscape photography was evident in every image he shared.
For more than a decade, Dean’s photography appeared behind the SeawayCity.com logo at the top of the website, within what was then a 978-pixel header, becoming a familiar and defining feature of the site. Great care has always been taken to display only local Seaway Valley scenes.
Today, his work is presented predominantly in high resolution within an animated slider at the top of the site’s main content area, where his photography remains one of the featured visual elements of the SeawayCity.com Web Portal.
We remain deeply grateful for his generosity in sharing his photography with our community. His images continue to inspire and will always be an important part of our story.

Why our weather works.
Most weather services covering Cornwall use observations obtained from locations farther from the city. SeawayCity.com uses observations from Massena International Airport, located approximately 16 kilometres south of Cornwall. Its proximity to the city allows us to present weather information that more closely reflects conditions affecting Cornwall and the surrounding area.

current conditions
SeawayCity.com’s Current Weather Conditions begin with official observations recorded at Massena International Airport (KMSS), also known as Richards Field (MSS), in Massena, New York. The airport’s Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) continuously measures a wide range of atmospheric conditions and may include augmented observations.
These observations are transmitted using the internationally recognized METAR aviation reporting format and are made available to SeawayCity.com. Our custom software continuously retrieves the latest reports and processes the raw aviation weather data before it is published on the website. Temperatures and other measurements are converted to metric, coded weather reports are translated into plain language, and the data is enhanced with our custom and realistic weather icons.
Massena International Airport was selected because of its close proximity to Cornwall. Located approximately 16 kilometres south of the city, it experiences many of the same weather influences that affect Cornwall. As a result, it often provides a closer representation of local weather conditions.
Visitors can view a comprehensive display of current weather conditions for Cornwall and the surrounding area, including current sky conditions, temperature, wind direction, sustained wind speed and gusts, Humidex during warmer weather, Wind Chill during colder weather, relative humidity, dew point, atmospheric pressure and tendency, and visibility.

The data used for our 5-day graphical forecast and 7-day detailed text forecast is provided by Environment Canada, officially known as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Forecast updates are typically received four times per day, with additional updates occasionally issued when conditions warrant. Our software automatically handles the day and night forecast transitions for our local timezone and processes the data in much the same way as our current conditions. The primary difference is the source of the information, with forecast data originating from ECCC rather than the observations used for our current conditions.
The Detailed Weather Forecast will also display extreme weather advisories when issued by ECCC for Cornwall and the Seaway Valley.
regional radar
At times, one of the most colourful features on SeawayCity.com is the regional radar. Here in the office, we refer to it as “NEXRAD”, which stands for Next-Generation Radar, a network of 160 high-resolution S-band Doppler weather radars operated by the NWS. The technical name is WSR-88D (Weather Surveillance Radar, 1988, Doppler). The radar images seen on SeawayCity.com are provided by Accuweather.com.
SeawayCity.com now offers quick-access weather cards for current and extended weather conditions, as well as the regional radar. In addition, new weather cards display air quality, UV conditions, and weather alerts affecting Cornwall and the surrounding Seaway Valley. Each card includes a link to detailed information about the data source and its usage.
Beginning in March 2023, Canada was affected by a record-setting series of wildfires which caused unprecedented levels of smoke, forcing air quality alerts and evacuations in Canada and the United States. SeawayCity.com now includes a link to the Air Quality Health Index which is made available by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
ECCC provides the Ultraviolet (UV) Index and sun safety, including an easy-to-read five-segment scale (Low, Moderate, High, Very High, and Extreme), along with recommended levels of protection for the eyes and skin.
Weather alerts are issued by ECCC when weather conditions may pose a risk to people or property. SeawayCity.com monitors the official Cornwall–Lancaster and the Morrisburg–Long Sault feeds, displaying active alerts directly on the homepage.
Alerts may be issued as a Watch, Warning, or Special Weather Statement, depending on the level of risk and certainty. Additional information can also be obtained by selecting “View details” during an Alert.
ECCC has also introduced a colour-based alert system:
Yellow – Be aware and monitor conditions.
Orange – Increased risk. Be prepared to take action.
Red – Dangerous conditions. Immediate action may be required.
Alerts are issued for specific forecast regions. Warnings affecting nearby communities may not appear on SeawayCity.com unless they also include the Cornwall–Lancaster or Morrisburg–Long Sault forecast areas.
When there are no Alerts, SeawayCity.com will display an All clear status.
